Week 4

This week we measured out the dimensions of the transmission support structure, and decided the size of the gears we are going to use. Found a website that helps find the pitch of the of the gears http://www.gizmology.net/gears. Found out how to connect the Lego input to our gear shaft. The images below show the different gear alignments for each gear from 1-4. The last image shows some of the calculations that were done and the dimensions of the gears that will be used.

Week 3

The group drafted a sample gear in Pro-Engineer.
The gear was created by using calculations which can be used to insure that it will mesh with other gears of the same pitch. The modeled gear is just a sample gear and not of the same dimensions as the final gears that the group will use.

Week 2

Talked with Professor Deepak about guidelines and what was needed to be included with the design proposal that is due in week three. Found out the basic layout of what the transmission housing was going to look like. Also set up outline of Design Proposal, and divided it up among group members.

Week 1

In week one found a group that was all interested in the manual transmission design competition. Set up a blog in blogger. Exchanged contact information in the group and contacted Professor Deepak Siromani about the basic guidelines for competition.
