Week 9

On Tuesday we went to pick up our gears that had been printed, only to find out that the scale of the gears had been off and none of them were meshing. When creating the gears in Pro/E, we had accidentally mixed up the values for diameter with the vales for the radius and we ended up with gears that were half of the size that we expected and therefore there were large gaps in between gears that were supposed to be meshing. Using the scaling feature in Pro/E, we scaled all of our parts up by two and then sent them to the printer again around one o'clock on Tuesday. The newly scaled gears should be done by Friday at the latest and we will be able to test them once they are completed. We will set aside a time sometime on Friday to be able to come in and test our transmission for RPM and torque. The picture below is the gears that were printed but were too small. As you can see in the figure the pitch it right and the gears mesh properly.

The Pro/E simulation is in its final stages and should be complete by the time our physical parts will be tested.
